BAA DHONFANU SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION
Baa Dhonfanu School was established on 6th July 1983. It was evident that there was a school in Dhonfanu School long before this date. The current teacher's quarter was the previous school, run and owned by the Islanders. It is known that the school operated in other places before it was moved to teacher's quarter building. The school is at a challenging stage in its development. We have moved on to newer frontiers in terms of our external examinations; Cambridge O' Levels and IGCSE. We must be prepared for these changes in order to bring positive gains in students' attainment. For this we need to have clear structures and responsibilities within administration, and school management. In this way we can respond to day-to-day, termly and yearly tasks more effectively and could respond to changes without being over whelmed. Surrounded by number of resorts, the school has a good relationship with most of the resorts and benefit from them.
AIMS OF BAA DHONFANU SCHOOL
The main aim of a school can be divided into two parts, Discipline and Education. Discipline includes ethics and following the norms of the society. Education involves acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes, talents, and experience in the fields of study. There is only one true purpose for any school: Learning, learning to be disciplines, learning to be productive knowledgeable and skillful citizen. Baa Dhonfanu School is a learning community. We want the students who are in Baa Dhonfanu School to enjoy learning, to have an intensity of purpose about their learning. We cannot teach them everything while they are here, but we can pass the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes they would need to continue learning for the rest of their lives, thus they would wish to continue their education. We must show them that it can be an enjoyable, enriching, and a fulfilling experience.

Once the form is filled, submitted and processed, the student is given an index number, class where he/she will study, and the house where he/she will belong to. It is the responsibility of the parents to take latest time tables from notice board or from class teacher, and arrange for the text books and other stationaries.
SCHOOL MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION
The Principal is the head of the institution and is ultimately responsible for all programs and activities of the school. The principal is assisted by the Leading Teacher. In addition, the Senior Management Team (SMT), comprises of Subject Coordinators, Leading teacher, and The Principal. Office staff handles the day-to-day administration.
The Need for Role Definition
In order to establish a coherent staffing structure we have here identified areas of prime responsibilities and have 'named persons' in-charge of specific areas of school life, thus making communication easier, as members of staff are directed to the person in-charge of a specific responsibility. It must be noted, however, that roles are not exclusive and that all colleagues have an obligation to interpret these responsibilities both sensitively and appropriately. Specific and well-defined roles may seemingly divide the school into 'camps' - the curricular, extra- curricular and pastoral. In reality this is never the case, since the students are 'one' and our roles as staff span both spheres at one and the same time. Flexibility in the interpretation of the following responsibilities is a prerequisite for the effective functioning of the School.
Communication Patterns and Procedures
The staff room notice board functions as the key information disseminating mechanism. Please browse through this daily. The school calendar or the activities calendar provides an overview of what is planned for the term and the whole year, please make note of the dates as given in the calendar and keep these dates free in your diaries. Subject Coordinators provide guidance and assistance in their subject areas. The session In-charges are often good mentors who are approachable; please feel free to consult them. The Principal has an 'open door' policy and will see teachers whenever possible. Please keep in mind that he will not be able to see all of you with all your concerns, hence please direct your request first to the session in charge or concerned parties.
